The Eye of the Tiger

The Bellagio Las Vegas celebrates Chinese Lunar New Year with a floral display of thousand of plants and flowers showcasing the “eye of the tiger” (2022 is the year of the tiger). An 8000 pound bronze tiger is at the center of the display amidst an explosion of colors. A golden money tree symbolizing good fortune dazzles to the right of the tiger.  In the Chinese zodiac calendar, the tiger represents strength, wisdom and bravery. Bromeliads add a touch of the tropics to the garden. This vignette represents a knickknack peddler. Notice the pomegranate fruits above the umbrella. The lotus is a symbol of rebirth and regeneration just as the new year brings renewed energy for a fresh start. Children fishing beside a pagoda. What an inviting tea house with a koi pond and carefully selected flora! This enormous flower is a mosaic made from crushed petals and pink roses. The “Eye of the Tiger” will be on display until March 5, 2022. The Spring display follows a week later on March 12th. The f

Chihuly Glass Spotting

I saw this stunning chandelier at the Hotel Sofitel in Redwood City. I verified with the front desk attendant that this is indeed by Dale Chihuly. If you would like to see more of Chihuly's works, check the following links: http://travelswithcharie.blogspot.com/2009/06/dale-chihulys-glass-flowers.html http://travelswithcharie.blogspot.com/2010/04/post-trio-san-francisco.html * * * Image by Charie

Post Trio - San Francisco

I noticed that there were quite a few searches for Dale Chihuly's glassworks on my blog lately. I'd like to share these photos I took at Post Trio Restaurant in San Francisco where we had our Christmas party last year. We had the Garden Room to ourselves so we had a fabulous view of Dale Chihuly's glass flowers. It's quite special. Post Trio is just behind the St. Francis Hotel in the city's much visited shopping area, Union Square. Another irresistible feature of the restaurant is the stairs one takes to go down to the restaurant.  These stairs are for the confident who are unfazed by the scrutiny they receive from guests seated below. My officemate had the New York steak above. I opted for the salmon dish. I remember a far better meal I had at Post Trio many years ago. It's not quite the same. But the service is still topnotch. *  *  * Images by Charie

Dale Chihuly's Glass Flowers

Dale Chihuly's glass flowers at Bellagio Hotel Whenever I'm in Vegas, I make it a point to go to Bellagio to see its botanical gardens, it's Gallery of Fine Art exhibitions, and the hand-blown glass flowers by Dale Chihuly. What an explosion of colors these 2,000 glass flowers create suspended as they are from the ceiling above the reception area of the hotel! Nothing says "Welcome" better than these warm and tropical beauties. For more on Dale Chihuly visit his website at http://www.chihuly.com/ . * * * Photos by Charie
