Top Destinations in 2008

Frommers, The New York Times and Lonely Planet have come out with their list of top destinations in 2008. The NY Times has selected 53 destinations, one too many if you spend a week at each destination. Three places mentioned by both Frommers and The NY Times are Quito in Ecuador, Essaouira in Morocco and St. Lucia in the Caribbean. Colorado is on the radar screens of both Lonely Planet-Region and Frommers. Read why.

My choice for next trip is Northern Spain, Valladolid, Salamanca. Santiago de Compostela, why? There is a gentility in the phrases of Strangers in the less traveled paths of Spain that soothes me, charms me...it is almost as though for brief moments, I step into the past of my
Spanish forbears and experience only the gentility, the urbanity forever lost in modern life.

To answer your poll: I'd like to go to Perú, specifically to Machu Picchu. I'm also interested in going to the Copper Canyon in Mexico.

I would love to go to Vietnam and visit the islands that were in the movie Indochina.
